Our History

InfoWatch’s history is closely integrated with the Kaspersky Lab, the largest Russian developer of external virus protection software. Kaspersky Lab became a European leader in antivirus software development in 2007 and now is one of the top five companies in the industry. In 2001 developers of the Kaspersky Lab began to seek out the answer to a difficult question: Is it possible to use the engine analyzing a company’s incoming files to analyze its outgoing files? The result of this effort was a project that built upon the lab’s 15 years of experience in the areas of virus neutralization, fending off hacker attacks, and filtering spam. This same experience was used to develop systems to protect a network against internal threats.

In 2002 a group of developers from the Kaspersky Lab designed a prototype product that analyzes the content of outgoing mail (later on, the prototype was given the name InfoWatch Mail Monitor). The first customer interested in the project was HYDRO OGK. By the end of 2003 the project grew significantly and the management decided to produce a separate product and launch it on the market. On December 9th, 2003, the Kaspersky Lab registered a daughter company, ZAO InfoWatch, which began developing and promoting InfoWatch information security products that protect companies against information leaks from inside. During its first year, about ten major customers were found, and in the course of the next five years the number of customers grew to more than fifty.

From the very beginning of its operations InfoWatch signed contracts with a number of partners, including leaders in domestic system integration. Work through partners became the main business principle of InfoWatch.

In 2007 there was a need to modify the company management strategy and Natalya Kapsersky was elected InfoWatch General Director, being at the same time the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and one of the InfoWatch founders.

Today InfoWatch is a market leader in the Russian DLP solutions market (solutions in comprehensive protection against data leaks). According to expert estimates, InfoWatch controls about 70% of the domestic market in its area of operations. InfoWatch customers include several dozens of major Russian companies. InfoWatch also actively works in the European and other foreign markets.
